Sermon:
(Listen)
Heart
(physically) is a hollow, muscular organ, responsible
for pumping blood through the blood vessels by repeated,
rhythmic contractions.
Heart
(spiritually) is the seat of the person’s
innermost emotions and feelings; an innermost part
of a human being where ideas or influences originate;
the focus of ideas, feelings, and emotions.
1.
Heart is very source of all his attitudes and
actions
Proverbs
4:23; Philippians
4:7
2. Source
of all that a believer ministers or speaks
Matthews
12:34-35
What
is in the abundance of our hearts, our mouth speaks.
What
we see, hear, read are the things we will perceive.
What our perceptions to what we see, hear or read
will give us thought. Our thoughts will create
desire in our hearts. The desires in our hearts
will dictate on how we will talk or act. The way
we live day by day is our actions. How we live
and how we act determines our character. Our character
will determine our destiny.
3. Spiritual
defilement: Matthew 9:4
Heart
is the seat of negative attitudes and actions
such as adultery, desire, doubts, evil, fear,
hatred, lust, pride, rebellion, and positive attitudes
and actions such as forgiveness, obedience, purpose,
reason, rejoicing, love, conscience.
God
wants us to love Him with all our heart, mind, body,
and spirit. Man looks on the outward, but GOD on
the person’s heart. When Samuel was instructed
by the Lord to go to Jesse’s house to anoint
the successor of Saul to be king of Israel, all
the brothers of David lined up. Samuel thought Eliab
will be the one, but GOD spoke to him not to look
on the countenance, nor to the height of his stature
because he is not the one for God sees what man
cannot see and that man looks on the outward, but
GOD looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:6-7. All the
bothers of David lined up, but they were all refused
by GOD. Samuel asked Jesse if he has more sons.
He told Samuel that he has the youngest that is
in the field taking care of the sheep. Jesse called
for David. When David was coming, God spoke to Samuel,
“Anoint him for he is my chosen.” So
David was anointed by Samuel and the Spirit of the
Lord came to David from that day and forward. 1
Samuel 16: 8 – 13.
Comparison
between the Physical Heart and the Spiritual Heart.
Physically,
the heart is the most important bodily organ. Proverbs
4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence for
out of it are the issues of life.”
| Physical
heart |
Spiritual
heart |
| The
physical heart is located approximately in the
center of a man’s chest. |
The
Spiritual heart of the heart if the Spirit should
be located in the very center of a believer’s
thoughts, words, actions – motivating
everything in His life. |
| 2. Every
physical heart is approximately the same
size as its owners clenched fist. |
Every
believer’s heart is only really as big
as the works of His hands show it to be. |
| 3.
The blood in the physical heart is composed
of the different nutrients contained in
the food consumed by its owner |
The
life in a believer’s spiritual heart is
composed of that which he allows to enter it
through his mind and experience. The pursuit
of life is obtained from eating the Word of
God. |
| 4. The
pumping system of a physical heart is based
on a reception release method. Some
blood is received through one part of the
heart, and other blood is released through another
part of the heart. |
The
outflowing of spiritual life from a believer
is based on his personal reception of God’s
love and forgiveness and then its subsequent
release to those around him. |
| 5. The
physical heart pumps the blood throughout the
body which cleanses the human body from its
impurities. |
The
spiritual heart of a believer knows and preaches
the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus Christ
which continually keeps the Body of Christ spiritually
pure. Hebrews 10:10,” By which will
we are sanctified through the offering of the
body of Jesus Christ once and for all.” |
| 6.
The healthy physical heart beats automatically
and without the conscious effort of its owner. |
The
healthy spiritual heart of a believer sows the
love; joy and peace of God naturally, spontaneously
and without any conscious effort or insincere
“put on”. |
| 7. The
physical heart is more prone to some form
of heart disease and attack, the more its owner
is on a higher fat diet. |
The
spiritual heart of the believer will be more
prune to spiritual sickness, the more the leader
takes in rich truths of the Word of God, but
does not practice them and make them active
part of his life and the lives of others. |
| 8. The
physical heart is more prune to heart disease
and attack the more its owner consumes
alcoholic beverages. |
The
spiritual heart of a believer is more prune
to spiritual sickness. The more believer dabbles
will the wine of pleasures and the cares of
this world. |
| 9. The
physical heart will be more prone to disease
and attacks the less physical exercises the
owner does. |
The
spiritual heart of the believer is more prone
to spiritual sickness, the less the believer
does the word and will of God. |
| 10.
The physical heart – more tension and
stress its owner performs. |
Keeps
himself under much mental emotional and spiritual
strains by not putting all things into the Lord’s
hands. |
Phil.
4:6, 7 “Be anxious for nothing but in everything
by prayer and supplications with thanksgiving. Let
your requests be made known to God, and the peace
of God with surpasses all understanding will guard
your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
A
great deal of stress is the direct result of shouldering
the burdens of life without turning to the Lord
in prayer. We have access to “the peace
of God” when we release our burdens to the
Lord.
The
scriptures speak of casting, all you care upon Him
for He cares for you. When we fail to release
our problems and cares to Christ, we begin the experience
increasing tension, anxiety
and fear.
Prayer
is one of the most powerful remedies for stress.
Trust
in God’s word. Romans 15:4 “For
whatever things were written before were written
for our learning that we through the patience and
comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
The
promises and counsel of Scriptures provides us with
a rich storehouse of stress – relieving comfort
and peace. Stress often results from failing to
stand upon the absolute reality of God’s word
in spite of our circumstances.
Fellowship
Hebrews 10:24, 25 “And let us consider
one another in order to stir up love and good works,
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some. Studies have proven
that interaction with loved ones and friendships
helps relieve the pressure of stress. Those
who isolate themselves and withdraw from people
and relationship suffer a greater degree of stress
related problems.
